*Note* Please keep in mind that whatever I mention in this blog absolutely DOES NOT apply to everyone. But if you keep an open mind, you might find that you probably must have experiences similar people and things :)
What I hate about fashion is,
When I meet new people and they ask me what I'm studying, I say I'm studying fashion.
Or when I was working with the magazine, I say I work with the fashion industry.
And they always have this "Wow," look, at the same time a sense of "this girl must be really vain". It's understandable, for they are mostly right.
From my experience people in the fashion industry has to have a high level of self-confidence to make it in this world because there will always be bitching, backstabbing, people trying to bring them down. A lot of people in the industry thinks its all about the image,
"I HAVE to be the best, I HAVE to look the best, I HAVE to be the queen, I AM the celebrity, I AM the fashion, I AM BETTER THAN YOU."
Sounds familiar? This is the kind of thing that goes through their minds every single day in order to survive, and that is why they are bound to become the best because they make everyone including themselves think they are the best.
Funny enough, I do not like people who are this way. But what I didn't realize was that I've also at some point, caught myself thinking the same way as them. And it does make me feel disgusted with myself for being so vain. Is this because being in the industry and surrounded by many of those kind of people turn me that way?
I'm not saying that kind of thought is bad, it is great, and useful if you want to make it in this world. People will fear you, worship you, love you, and hate you. I mean, hate you a lot. To make it in the fashion world, is all about power, skills & networking. And some creativity. But I'm not so sure if I want to make it in such a vain and bitchy way. Unfortunately, being nice doesn't get you anywhere these days.
Up to this point, I've forgotten why I typed that topic.
Let's just say I already made my point why I think I'm not a fashion person. Because if that's what it takes to be a fashion person, then that's not who I am. I'm probably one of the most down-to-earth and easy-going person I've met amongst some of my girl friends.
When I buy clothes I always choose to pick up expensive items rather than cheap items from cheap stores. Yea, it does sound vain right? I buy expensive clothes for a reason.
Reason number one:
I buy quality. I've learned in depth about the fashion industry, the quality of each garments, why some brands are cheaper and some are more expensive, what are their target market, age range of their consumers, etc. Most expensive brands really look into their quality of the product they produce that is why it is worth paying for. I'm not saying it's worth getting an LV keychain, obviously that is unnecessary, and is part of their marketing using the popularity of the brand to produce such product that sells in an expensive price.
Reason number 2:
I buy what makes my style. You must have heard of this, "Fashion is for people who struggles to find an identity, Style is for people who knows who they are".
What probably attracts me into this industry is Style. Style tells a lot about the individual. It is like watching what a person does in their daily lives, what they choose to eat, what they choose to study, where they choose to go, what they choose to wear; is their lifestyle. Style is Lifestyle.
I am an artist in the head. We artists have identities. We have ideas, we have thoughts, we have lifestyles, we are the art. Each piece of art work defines the artists' identity. What they wear also defines the wearer's identity. I'm attracted to make up because it defines my identity. I'm attracted to clothes because it defines my style.
Therefore, I AM STYLE.
